Perfect Moment Monday

Friday night we were all feeling a bit sick. Cory headed to bed early but I couldn't sleep. River never wants to go to bed so to keep from getting lonely I let him stay up with me. We played "vrooms" aka cars/trucks and watched an "Adventure Time" marathon on Cartoon Network. Seriously, we LOVE that cartoon round our house. It is perfect for kids and adults who enjoy new folk music, obscure 80's lingo and off the wall but not obnoxious story lines.

Jake the dog and Finn the hu-man

When River started to show signs of tiring we cuddled up on the couch and I started to watch "Ghost Adventures." I love ghost stories and scary movies! As he was drifting off to sleep he wrapped his chubby little hand around my finger. I had to shift once and he lost his grip on my finger. Though he was asleep his hand immediately sought my finger again and wrapped around it.

Though each month I am disappointed to not find myself amongst the lucky ladies I know who are expecting I do truly cherish these moments that I have to parent River with my full and undivided attention. We've grown to be partners in crime. We've developed a bond that words fail me to express my gratitude for. I couldn't think of anywhere else I'd rather be on a Friday night than on a big comfy couch snuggled up with my son, his hand wrapped around my finger as he drifts of to sleep.

Uh-Oh, don't tell my ubber conservative parents this...

I've always been what I consider a reasonable hippy. I like to recycle, minimize my trash and carbon footprint and treat nature respectfully. I also like to channel the rockin' 70's hippy style.

I never thought I would be one of those extremist hippies that cries over animals being used for meat or trees being cut down, though. That was until we brought a book home from the library that had the following picture:

And I was offended. No joke. So apparently I'm one step closer to "Meat is Murder" than I ever thought I would be. Just don't ever tell my parents. I'm already too liberal for their taste as it is. This might just send them over the edge :)

The Year of the Rabbit

Today begins the year of the Rabbit according to Chinese tradition. I read here that the year of the Rabbit, the fourth year in the 12 year cycle of the Chinese zodiac, "is traditionally associated with home and family, artistic pursuits, diplomacy, and keeping the peace. Therefore, 2011 is very likely to be a relatively calmer one than 2010 both on the world scene, as well as on a personal level." Don't know how what is going on in Egypt falls in line with that, but my 2011 hasn't been any quieter than 2010, either.

All I know is that when I heard this was the year of the Rabbit my mind went somewhere else! So here's to family, diplomacy, peace and to everyone ttc... the (re)productivity that rabbits are known for as well.

Happy Year of the Rabbit!
